Types of Juvéderm®

Juvéderm® products are silky gels made of hyaluronic acid, a humectant the skin naturally produces. Humectants retain moisture and keep our skin soft, supple, and smooth. As we age, the amount of humectant in our skin decreases, which is why we develop things like fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin.

We offer a range of Juvéderm® products to address common and specific skin concerns. Explore the list of cosmetic injectable gels below to find which product or products may be right for you.

Voluma XC

As the name suggests, Voluma XC is formulated to restore age-related volume loss in the cheeks. It’s usually applied to the area under the cheekbones to achieve fuller, rounder facial contours. It can also be applied to the chin and jawline to create a stronger profile.

Vollure XC

Those with moderate to deep facial wrinkles or folds will benefit from Vollure XC. It improves nasolabial folds—the creases running from the edge of the nostril to the corner of the mouth.

Vollure XC is very similar to Ultra Plus XC, but is softer, attracts less water, and may provide a slightly more natural look. It also compensates for the loss of skin elasticity by adding light volume where it’s administered.

Volbella XC

The skin around the mouth and eyes is both mobile and sensitive, and Volbella XC keeps that in mind. This cosmetic injectable fills in under-eye hollows, plump lips, and reduce the appearance of vertical wrinkles around the mouth, called perioral lines.

Ultra XC

This cosmetic injectable treats moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds of the lower face, such as marionette lines, smile lines, nasolabial folds, and perioral lines. It can also add volume and plumpness to thinning lips.

Ultra Plus XC

What Does Juvéderm® Treat?

Our Juvederm® products can treat a number of specific concerns. The following are some of the most common.

Loss of Volume in Cheeks

As we age, our skin loses moisture and elasticity, and we also lose subcutaneous fat—fat that sits below the surface of the skin and gives the face soft, youthful contours. These changes cause the skin to sit closer to a person’s bone structure, making the cheeks appear sunken or hollow and contributing to the development of wrinkles and jowls.

The Voluma XC formula is specially restores volume to the face. These cosmetic injections replenish the soft barrier between bone and skin, giving cheeks a plump, youthful fullness.

Frown Lines

Diminishing moisture and elasticity in the skin also creates creases where it moves the most—particularly around the eyes and mouth, where the skin crinkles when we smile. These curving lines can become more pronounced over time, creating parenthetical smile lines on either side of the mouth and nasolabial folds.

Both Juvederm® Volbella XC and Ultra Plus XC are specifically formulated to reduce the appearance of lines around the nose and mouth. The Volbella XC formula is best for deeper, etched lines, while Ultra Plus XC is effective for mild to moderate lines.

Thin Lips

Thin lips may be the result of an age-related decline in collagen production, or they may simply be genetic. In both cases, many individuals choose to treat thin or thinning lips because those with fuller lips tend to be perceived as younger.

Juvederm® Vollure XC, Volbella XC, and Ultra Plus XC can all add volume to thin lips. Vollure XC is a softer, slightly more natural-looking formula, while Ultra Plus XC is firmer and may last longer. Volbella XC is specifically for plumping sensitive areas, like the lips and surrounding skin. These treatments aren’t permanent but can be applied regularly to maintain a full and younger-looking smile.

Marionette Lines

Much like smile lines, marionette lines result from a combination of repetitive facial movements and a loss of skin elasticity caused by a decline in collagen. These lines form parallel parentheses around the lower half of the mouth and chin and can be moderate or deeply etched into the skin.

Juvederm® Ultra XC lifts and smooths the skin around the nose and mouth, reducing or eliminating marionette lines. This cosmetic injectable is formulated particularly to address lines and wrinkles on the lower half of the face.

Juvéderm® Procedure

Prior to your Juvederm® procedure, you’ll consult with one of our medical professionals to decide which product or products would be best for your cosmetic desires.

During the procedure itself, your medical professional will mark your face with a soft pen to identify each injection site. They’ll then inject the Juvederm® treatment into each area and gently massage your skin to ensure the gel distributes evenly and to help reduce swelling.

Each Juvederm® injection contains a small amount of lidocaine, which reduces pain both from the injection itself and while your body is adjusting to the cosmetic treatment. The whole procedure generally takes between 15 and 60 minutes.

To reduce the chances of bruising, it’s best to avoid alcohol for several weeks leading up to your appointment. Smoking before receiving this cosmetic treatment may also increase your chances of bruising.

Recovery

Juvederm® injections are minimally invasive and require very little recovery time. Most clients experience some swelling, bruising, and tenderness. Redness, itching, and slight pain are also common. Persistent or unbearable side effects should be addressed by a doctor immediately. All side effects should resolve within 2 to 4 weeks.

We advise clients to avoid wearing makeup, drinking alcohol, doing physically demanding activity, and spending extensive time in the sun for 24 hours post-procedure.

Results

Juvederm® treatments usually show signs of smoothing and plumping immediately, with the full effect becoming noticeable in about two weeks. While these fillers are a safe, effective way to smooth away signs of aging, the effects are temporary. How long the cosmetic treatment lasts depends on the patient’s skin type and age and which products are administered.

Most patients enjoy their Juvederm® treatments between six months and two years before additional cosmetic treatments are needed.

Juvéderm® vs. Botox

Juvederm® and Botox may be the two most popular cosmetic treatments for smoothing away fine lines and wrinkles. Both cosmetic treatments are FDA-approved to be administered by a medical professional. However, how they work and the concerns they treat are different.

Juvederm® is a filler gel infused with hyaluronic acid that is injected under the skin to plump and smooth lines and wrinkles from underneath.

Juvederm® treats minor to severe wrinkles and folds in the skin, hollows under the eyes and in the cheeks, thinning lips, and lines around the mouth, and can be injected into the chin to create a stronger profile. Results may last up to two years.

On the other hand, Botox is a prescription drug that, when injected into the face, temporarily relaxes facial muscles. This process fades wrinkles by preventing muscle movements that cause them.

Botox mainly treats wrinkles and fine lines around the eyes and mouth, on the forehead, and between the eyebrows. Botox doesn’t fill in hollowed-out areas of the face. Results last for about six months.

Juvéderm® FAQ

Which Juvéderm® is best for under the eyes?

Volbella XC is the best Juvederm® formula for under the eyes.

Does Juvéderm® migrate?

In extremely rare cases, Juvederm® fillers may migrate to another area of the face because too much filler was administered or two treatments were administered too close together on the face. Filler migration shouldn’t cause any physical pain or discomfort, and an experienced Juvederm® medical professional will be able to help you address the issue.

Though filler migration is highly unlikely, there are steps you can take to prevent it. The first is making sure your Juvederm® medical professional is highly qualified. Radiant Luxe Essence Juvederm® medical professionals are skilled, experienced, and dedicated to your well-being.

The second way to prevent filler migration is to follow all post-procedure instructions and advice carefully.

Is Juvéderm® permanent?

Juvederm® treatments are long-lasting but temporary. Depending on factors such as age, skin condition and type, and treatments administered, Juvederm® will last from six months to two years.

Will Juvéderm® help with jowls?

Juvederm® Voluma may help minimize or eliminate jowls. It restores fullness to the cheeks and counteracts sagging in the cheek and jaw area that causes jowls.

Is Juvéderm® worth it?

Juvederm® products are safe, effective, and long-lasting. The gel fillers are smooth and elastic, making them look and feel natural under the skin. Juvederm® also treats a wide range of skin concerns, from frown lines to thinning lips. Other aesthetic solutions only address some of these concerns.

Administering Juvederm® is minimally invasive, requires very little recovery time, and the chances of experiencing serious side effects are very low.

Juvederm® is marginally more expensive than Botox and other gel fillers. However, the slight uptick in price is indicative of a high-quality product.
